About fishin’ expeditions

Runge and IThe term, fishin’ expedition, was used by my grandfather to define any trip to the lake, river, tank or pond that he and I were to fish. His name was Herman Runge and he was affectionately referred to by many simply as ‘Runge’. Those early days spent with Runge on the bank of a pond would be the primer for my angling enthusiasm which would span the next five decades and continues today …a passion of chasing most anything with fins all over the globe!

fishin’ expeditions is the continuation of that experience Runge set in place.

Sure, the Number One priority is “catching” and we want to put you in the best possible place…at just the right time…for you to catch the exotic species of your dreams. But as you know, there is a whole lot of planning and preparation that goes into the process before the “catching” can happen. That’s where we come in.

Hello friends. My name is David Fields and I would like the opportunity to earn your business and help you plan your next…fishin’ expedition!

Since those early years with Runge I have been blessed with the good fortune to chase and fulfill my passion of… fishin’ the Americas. In the infancy of “bass tournament fishing” and for most of the 70’s I competed in several of the bass tournament circuits throughout the US. One of the awards I received for winning a tournament in Arkansas in 1975 was a trip to Lake Yojoa in Central Honduras. That trip was to be the ‘hook’ and the first of many… fishin’ expeditions for me outside the United States.

Since that trip I have escorted family, friends, business associates and clients throughout the Americas in search of the most exciting sportfishing adventure destinations available. For thirty years this angling quest has taken me from the delta and canyon lakes of the West to the marshes and timbered reservoirs of the South and throughout the Midwest to the highland impoundments of Appalachia and the Ozarks...inshore all along the Gulf Coast and South of the Border to the infamous trophy lakes of Mexico...through Belize, Honduras and Central America...and on to South America in search of the explosive Peacock Bass, Payara and Dorado of the Amazon Rain Forest.

While pursuing my business interests and other commitments during the 80’s and early 90’s the available time for my “passion” waned. That is, until such time as my son Josh decided it was time for him to join in the Runge experience. Josh remembered my stories about the Honduras trip and trips to the famed Lake Guerrero of Old Mexico in the early 1970’s. Our fishin’ trips together over the years are treasures forever etched in my mind.

In 1999 Josh joined me for his first trip to Mexico where we fished the beautiful Lake Huites… once called the mystery lake. He was amazed at the incredible action we had for five days. Phenomenal catch rates…sometimes 50 fish off of one point with fish up to 8#. Hey folks, that was eight years ago…these fish grow 2lbs. per year. The lake record at Huites is currently 15 lbs. 3 oz. and that fish was released right back into the cove where it was caught. Lake Huites would prove to become my favorite of all of the great Mexican Bass lakes.

In 2003, both of my sons were able to join me on a group trip to Mexico’s famed Lake El Salto. This was Brad’s first trip “South of the Border” to tangle with the Florida strain Mexican Bass. One morning my fishin’ partner Dale Loggins and I caught over 100 fish from one small area with the ten largest ranging from eight to over twelve pounds. Wow! What a morning!

In 2006 we had the opportunity to fish and film on the legendary Lake Comedero as the guests of James and Debbie Lubeker. Located three hours into the rugged Sierra Madre’s from the coastal city of Mazatlan, Lake Comedero is a pristine and remote 30,000 acre reservoir loaded with Giant Bass! At the lakes edge you will also find Lake Comedero Lodge where the Lubekers provide wonderful hospitality as well as excellent food and accommodations. Oh, by the way, the fishing was awesome!

These are the premier MexicanBassLakes and we represent the premier lodges and facilities on all of these lakes.

Since that first trip to Honduras 30 years ago our expeditions have taken us to exciting Sportfishing Adventure Destinations throughout North America, to Mexico and Central America and to South America in search of the Peacock Bass and other exotic species. The Peacock Bass… truly an incredibly exciting sport fish and the Amazon Watershed of Northern Brazil…what an unforgettable fishin’ adventure!

Soon we will be investigating a facility in Costa Rica providing world class tarpon fishing. In 2007 we are planning an exploratory trip to Canada with our eyes on a great new smallmouth destination. Be assured, we will never represent a destination or lodge that we have not previously “field tested”, many on an annual basis. Thus, we will have fresh hands on information about the facilities and the management. In addition to providing a world class fishing experience, the destinations and lodges represented by fishin’ expeditions must meet our strict requirements for safety, service, cleanliness, hospitality, and food preparation.

It seems only natural that after years of planning and hosting fishin’ trips for friends, family and business associates, to all points across the Americas, fishin’ expeditions was founded. In part, we are a booking agency focused on providing client intensive and personal service. But the reality is…we have an ongoing passion for fishin’ these exciting destinations and we want to share that passion and experience with you. Thus, many of our trips are “hosted”. Our experience at providing personal service within our other businesses stretches back over 20 years. Our corporate motto, “Sportfishing Outfitters With A Passion For Excellence… sums up our approach to giving priority and personal attention to our clients, before, during and after their trip.
