The Belle of the Amazon started the season fishing outside of Barcelos. There were 9 anglers fishing aboard the Belle this week.

A robust 1,619 total peacock bass were boated for the week.

Of that number, there were 19 over 20lb that qualified for the Monster club. The largest being a 24.5 pounder. The top producing lure was the old reliable Woodchopper.

Chuck Mecam - hooked a locomotive strapped to a rocket!
A number of you have been asking what we expect the fishing to be like this year in the Amazon. Perhaps I can best answer that with a personal note from one fishin' expeditions client who just returned.

"David,

It absolutely was worth the wait!!!!  By Monday, Al Rickert and I had decided we HAD to come back - can't do that just once.  We had a marvelous, thoroughly enjoyable and eyeopening time.

Attached are 3 photos:  my first peacock, a 17 lb; a 21 lb and 24 lb that I caught.  Al and I caught a total of 230 peacocks on the trip and had 6 that went 20 to 24 lbs.  My description of hooking a peacock from the mid teens and up is that you hooked a locomotive strapped to a rocket!

Talk to you soon.  Kindest regards to all.

Chuck Mecum"

Jim Wyatt: "All 6 of us said ... best trip we had ever taken"
Jim Wyatt Group Report of Nov. 24, 2008

Trophy Team,
Well, we got back last night after the best 3 days of catching any of us has ever had.

All 6 of us said this had to be the best trip we had ever taken.
Peaceful Huites belies the action beneath!
Freddie has got to be the best cook in Mexico. He was waiting for us to get back every day with a snack and something cold to drink.

The guides knew where the fish were and were very helpful.

I got the biggest fish of the trip at 10.5 #. I also had a 10.0#
My 19 year old grandson had one on that would have gone well over 12 but it wrapped around a tree and broke off.

You have an excellent staff and should be very happy to have them.

We will be back next year.

- Jim Wyatt
